November 12 2015 found me hunting with 45-70 for the second time this year. first hunt ended successfully Monday afternoon after just being in stand for 10 minutes. Thursday, I started sitting on food plot and after not seeing any activity for 2 hours moved to another stand overlooking a huge agricultural field that has volunteer soybeans growing from this past years harvest. Saw 8 deer at minimum 350 yards according to range finder. A little before 5pm a doe and 2 yearling came out to my right. Range finder had her at 215. I have never shot a deer that far with a 45-70 so I gave it a try. Zoomed scope to 9 power and placed the first circle below crosshairs dead on her. After shot she gave the death kick and ran off with her 2 yearlings following. The pictures tell the rest. May consider using 45-70 during rifle season!
